Local Government

Falls International Airport belongs to the citizens of Koochiching County and International Falls, who contribute equally to the financial support of airport operations and capital improvements.

Local support does not stop with funding. The city and county each contribute two members to the International Falls-Koochiching County Airport Commission, which handles airport planning and administration and oversees airport maintenance and operations.

The City of International Falls first established the airport in 1945 and welcomed Koochiching County to the partnership in 1962, when a Joint Powers Agreement was signed creating the Airport Commission.

The airport also serves our neighbors across the Rainy River in northwestern Ontario, including Fort Frances, sister city to International Falls
